ABS Stopping distance in Snow.
Testing ABS in snow condition, speed 40km/hr.
The stopping distance is almost double when ABS is enabled.
This is slow motion of original video.

dude.. we all know ABS works better on DRY surfaces.
slippery stuff like gravel brakes better without ABS
You will be surprised how many dont know that,or blindly trust the technology.
I think this video is entirely incorrect… for the first test w/ ABS enabled… there was not a delayed brake lock up that does happen when braking in snow due to the fact the ABS has to work harder to prevent lockup… and in the second ABS test, the front tires were locked up the whole time, and the back tires locked up at the end!! So there is either something wrong w/ your ABS or you just had them disabled the whole time and tried faking having ABS.
obvious problem… it's a saturn…
fake
This is true, locked tires will definitely stop faster but abs is designed to maximize stopping while maintaining direction and steering control
Wow, thanks. I'm going to do my own tests with my ABS equipped car and if it is true that I can stop quicker in the snow with my brakes locked then I'm going to pull the fuse on my ABS system and drive that way in winters from now on. It could mean the difference between an accident and no accident. Thanks.
I have had lots of cars without ABS and a few with it. This test shows exactly why I hate it, cars with ABS are extremely dangerous in the slippery stuff. I have had many close calls rolling through stop signs and red lights that I know I could have stopped at without ABS!
Everytime abs kicks in in the snow the tires lock on my car.
You're the first one I ever saw doing such test. I hate ABS in the snow, when you're almost stopped and going like 10 KMH and you still feel the car is skiding and would have stopped earlier with no ABS. ABS might be good for higher speed handling but at very low speed, locking up wheels in the snow will stop faster.
Same thing with traction control, that crap won't let you move out of deep snow, you gotta let those wheel spin! Thx for the video.
WInter is here, I will test another vehicle Grand Caravan, with and without ABS.
Let it snow properly.
ABS is dangerous in winter conditions. The system is way too sensitive and the condition seems to be get worse with time as the car ages. This is something not publicized nearly enough, but all cars with ABS should have an option to turn it off when appropriate.
How to use ABS in snow condition?
— Just break gently don't push as hard as non-ABS
Thanks.
Why is your car not braking during the "with abs" part ? The weels should still lock multiple times with the abs. I don't want to screem "fake" to fast, but at best your ABS is not working.
