0-60 on level surface. Launch in M2. Car has Steptronic and XDrive.
Mods:
JB4 Stage 2 Map 5 (93 Octane pump gas)
BMS Intake
All else completely stock (even crappy run flat tires)

  2. VERY much so. It really wakes the car up. It's the best price/performance mod I've ever done for a car.

    To be honest, you get used to it, and if/when you set it back to stock, the car feels like a dog. It's how the car should have came from the factory. I've seen no ill effects from having it so far. The only negative thing is that due to the extra power, it's hard to keep yourself from mashing the gas pedal… which causes low MPG. My MPG highway went up when I keep my foot out of it.

  3. i also use 93 octane pump gas and i have a bms intake.. i was wondering if map1 or map5 would be better. i havent installed my jb yet..

  4. I like map5 better than map1. I've found that when it's heat soaked and it's warmer, there isn't rally a ton of difference between the two. However, when it's not heat soaked andor cooler out, map 5 will give be a bit more power… You can feel it. It seems to me since Terry came out w/ map5, there isn't much need to run anything else. It is all around the best unless you were full bolt ons +meth w/ a custom tune and/or at a drag strip w/ racing fuel.

  5. When you do go to map5, don't judge it off of how it initially feels. It will ramp up the power :-). If you get a chance to do a few highway pulls through a full gear, it will tune a lot faster.

    Remember to reset map 5 if you do any major changes, try an E85 mix, or after seasonal fuel blends…

  6. ok sweet. i wont be doing downpipes.. just keeping the intake.. i did order some torco fuel mix.. do you think i have to reset map 5 when i decide to mix in a bottle of that?

  7. Map 5 is supposed to continuously adapt. However, if you were to add the fuel mix and wanted it to adapt quickly, reset it and do some pulls. The best method seems to be the use of longer pulls. Most people find an empty safe highway and do a few 3rd gear pulls (~60-100). You could 2nd, but the gears is short enough that the computer doesn't get as much time to read data and get some tweaking in.

  8. Don't forget: The chip stays off until the car warms up past ~160 deg oil temp. Don't judge the performance or do any pulls until you see the oil temp visibly move above the 160 tick. Speedo 6, Tach 3 is the menu toggle option to have the indicators on the dash blink when the chip activates. You'll also find that you'll need to turn traction control or DTC off more often. With traction control or DTC off, cruise control doesn't work. It only works w/ all safety on.

  9. ok nice.. id like to have that indicator.. but if i decide against it, the chip activates higher than 160 deg? only reason id decide against it is if i brought it in for service and outta no where the dash blinks lol. .. you seem to know alot, i hope im not bothering you.. plus we also have the same mods lol.. map 0 is if i brought the car into service, correct? do the dash lights flash if i have it on 0?

  10. yea the intake is all im gonna put on my car. no more.. if its 100 degrees out or 10 degrees out, you still prefer map 5?

  11. You need to turn it to map 0 and turn off the auto code clearing before taking it in for oil changes and such. I'd toggle off the blink just in case… I haven't had to have a service yet (the car was brand new) so I haven't really had it in map 0 to notice the blinker. From what I understand… map 0 turns the JB4 unit off. I'll experiment and let you know 🙂

  12. To be honest, I'm confident you'll love either one. It's just personal preference. Try map 5 for a while and let it get tuned to your car… then swap to map 1 and see if it feels better, worse, or the same. Use it to help your decision. It's a preference thing. Most of the time I can't tell much of a difference between the two. I use 5 in hopes that from time to time I might eke out an extra 5-10HP (even though I probably wouldn't feel it).

    Just stay away from 2 and 7 🙂

  13. nice. i cant wait to install it.. im going to wait 2 weeks because i have to bring my car into service first.. then after, ill get it installed… i have to get used to the menus via the steering wheel controls.. but overall.. with the jb4.. huge difference?

  14. Probably the single most effective mod I've ever made to a vehicle… It's like the difference between a 328 and a 335. Lets just say that you'll pretty much have to live w/ the traction control nannies off!

  15. So I just got it for my n55, and don't feel a huge difference in performance. Does it take some time to adapt? I've tried maps 1, 2, and 5

  16. Map 1 isn't an insane amount of change.
    Map 2 doesn't give you performance unless you have a couple bolt-ons like a downpipe
    If you switch to map 5, do a few 2nd or 3rd gear pulls from lower RPM to ~redline for it to adapt. Remember, our stock intercoolers are trash. They are small and get heat soaked in 1 pull. Let them cool some. If you switch off of 5 for any reason once you went to 5, it resets. If you put it in map 5 you have to leave it for it to take full effect.

  17. The JB4 is a good starter mod… good bang for the buck. However, it's made to scale REALLY well with a downpipe and intercooler. Wait until it cools off some outside. You'll see more of a change. The summer heat turned my 335 into a dog.

  18. Ok, I'll try map 5 a bit. JB4 apparently doesn't even become active below 160 degree oil temp. I think I ran it up to 250 oil temperature with a few pulls at night. Temperature was around 85 F. The car sounded different as well but I think it may have been because I didn't re-attach the cowl.

  20. Why are you starting in 2nd gear? The gearing of 1st gear with AWD is your fastest out of the hole….
