You will see that many of the tips and procedures used are universal for skill sets «every mechanic should know» and that the biggest value to my videos is the teaching of these skills that are not found in a service manual.
I often get asked this question:
Q: How does one learn these skill sets «every mechanic should know» if they are not found in a manual?
A: NUMBER 1…..GET DIRTY and start wrenching.
-Ask questions
-Find a seasoned craftsman to mentor under
-Tech schools can significantly speed this time up
-Research, read, watch YouTube videos
Tip: You will never learn it all from one source or in a short time period. No matter what craft you are trying to master, YOU must be dedicated and put the time in. THERE IS NO BETTER WAY TO LEARN THAN DOING! I will say it again, you must actually do the work to master it. You cannot just watch or read about it and master anything.
You want to be a master bike builder, mechanic, welder, nurse, carpenter or you fill in the blank?
-Don’t take for granted opportunities to learn deeper
-Be humble and seek advice
-Be intentional with your learning plan
-Don’t blame a school, job or your parents for not giving you ever answer, go get it!

I teach a motorcycle/powersports technician program at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa. These videos are used for review of labs for students and creating a deeper understanding of the lesson/skill set. As there is often more than one way of doing something, may you enjoy this free information as much as our students do in person. PLEASE HIRE OUR GRADUATES!

  1. Hahaha "SHE WAS LOOSE!" Great stuff Shane, thanks for posting!

  2. I always wondered what are the chances to damage something if you leave the bike in gear to loosen the front sprocket bolt. How much force can the transmission take?

  3. front spocket shaft are loosed because running for long period make rear and tear in that thread bolts which waves side to side when race it..

  4. Thanks for the vid. What would happens if this wasn’t fixed?

  5. This is not the first video with this issue so it happens, thanks for sharing with us, one checklist item in case my fz6 misbehaves

  6. I have a 2005 Honda VFR800 that has only 7500 miles and looks like new top to bottom so I know it was cared for but it has a pretty loud clunk going into 1st form N and 1st to second clunks unless I am accelerating very fast. Oil is new, chain is stretched unevenly as I can't set chain tension to be even. As it is I hate this bike it is so bad. Could it be a warped clutch plate or something?

  7. My yamaha fz s fuel injection has the same problem… Chain makes a breaking mettalic noise when a accelerated rapidly after stopping, esp. With a pillion on it. What things should i change?

  8. I get a clunk on my cbr 650f when in first gear and I relise the clutch just creeping forward in first gear but it's strange becauce it only does it 3 times out of 6 attempts. I have changed chain and sprockets and also cush drive rubbers in the hub and it still does it. I mean the clunk isn't that load but It will do it when riding sometimes when I drop into gears or soemtimes going up the box when I relise clutch . It's not very bad but I'm just dieing to know exactly what it is and I hope it's not going get worse can you help please?

  9. Wonder if thats my trubble on my vstrom 650. Has to check.
    Thanks for shareing
