2005 TDI Smoke

This 2005 VW Jetta TDI started smoking out of the exhaust 3 weeks ago and has progressively gotten to this point in the video. The check engine light came on 10 days ago. The Mass Air Flow sensor went bad, so we replaced it but the smoke remains. It smells different than the normal diesel fumes, less sweet than what is normal.

  1. You have a leak on the intake pipes. Check all the pipes and you will recognize a leak by the oil getting out of the pipe.
    Or you will hear a "sssssssss" when someone will give some throttle.

  2. check fat L-shaped rubber pipe near EGR — I had big hole on it and i result big smoke and sometimes engine was switching to safe — mode .. black smoke means to much air in cylinders and some oil goes through exhaust in result.

  3. Turbo intercooler hose has a small slit in it. Hose is about $230 and is easy to replace. Bottom passenger near front wheel. It took me a few trips to the dealership and they still could n
