A 2003 VW ATQ Passat with 111k on the clock.
The problem i have right now is that the dash lights (speedo/tach), all the door lock/window switches indicator lights, stereo and buttons on said stereo stay on with the key removed. When i put the key in and switch to the ON/run position the dash lights and all other indicator lights turn off, the stereo can still play music but no light :-(. (posting a vid or pic tomorrow) . I can start the car and drive it but no dash or stereo/door button lights. The interior lights and transmission shifter lights work. I have check all the fuses and they seem to be good. It is as if the dash light switch has been reversed (lights off with key in, and lights on with key removed)
have check ignition switch, ccm terminals and all look fine. check every last fuse and relay for corrosion and they look good.
Just notice that the dash light switch light does not come on….could it be that if that switch dies it suppose to screw with my dash lights? Sort of like when a blinker bulb burns out the blinker speed increases indicating a problem. sigh….

I would see if there is a way to check out the Switch that turns the lights on. Most likely that will involve removing the switch and checking resistance of the various pins on the back with a Volt Meter. I'm sure if you google it you can find how to check it, good luck man.
Hey thanks for the reply. turns out it was teh cluster. The board in side fried. I swapped out the cluster and recoded it and this solved all the problems. Manage to get a factory re-man cluster with 0 miles on it from a friend who works at the dealer. It cost me $200 (normally 400). I had been reading that a lot of the used ones tend to fail recoding so i just went out and got a new one. pulled the sku from the old cluster with Vag Tacho and use that on the new cluster with vag com.

when you disconnected the instrument cluster did the radio, shifter, cigarette lighter, hazard siwtch lights stay on??? Having a similiar issue but i disconnected the cluster and only some lights go out and the ones i listed above stay on… Really would appreciate the info!

reversed logic on key
