Your multi meter will have a 1.5v 6v 9v 12v section select 12v watch for it to drop when you turn your key most cars need 12v to 12.5v to start

A battery can be fine in warm weather an bad ot the cold weather because of the cold crank amps go down when they get older

Voltage wont tell you if the battery will hold a charge. A battery can have 12 volts and be bad. CCA tells you how much juice is left in that battery. Not enough amps then theres not enough power left in that battery. This can be checked with a battery analyzer and/or load tester.

A bad cell with that voltage.

How does this compare to a Load Test ??

Get the vehicle running, put your meter on it, if it's reading high 13 or so volts, you alternator is working.
