Is there even any witches? I though that any magic user in that world was a "mage".
witches are real, but since the Salem trails they go by wiccans or wices (female)they are low level, like a jouneyman or Master. but mages are real too i haven't met one i wish i could but they would be a Adept.
Hmm, they might be real in a certain sense of the world. But there is certainly no one in this world with Valdemar-style magic.
Also it seems kinda silly to connect whatever tradition those people in Salem followed with the 60-40 year old traditions that modern wiccans follow.

I assure you there is. Magic real magic is nothing more than force of will to create a desired effect. the Druids believed in spell song IE spell that are sung instead of chanted. This song can be used in such a manner. It invokes heavy emotion and visualization. Two key ingredients in using modern magic. Leslie Fish has a few Spell songs as well that are great for Circle casting if you are a Wiccan.

@ARP7777777 Why would the HP wizards need Gates when they can Apparate or use a Portkey & the Floo Network? And they do have shields, though admittedly they aren't exactly like mage shields. I do agree that Urtho and Ma'ar were more powerful compared to most wizards, but don't you think that Dumbledore could have given them some competition?
@ARP7777777 The two exeptions to this i think, are apparition and Time-turners. apparition is basicaly a personal gate that dosent need a doorway, and uses almost no power, and time turners do something that no Velgarth mage is ever shown to be capable of as far as i know, and they hand them out to Students!

@ARP7777777 have you read any of her interviews, the woman includes Christian viewpoints, and wouldn't it be logical in that sense to not include pagan magic?

True, but not terribly important as at the date of recording Heather was still Heather and not Alex. I've met both/her as both genders, mainly at SCA type events, although never for long enough to be anything more than an interlude.
Either way, Heather/Alex is still the Queen/King
I guess it would sadden you to learn that Heather Alexander Has passed from the world of the living and gone beyond the vale
@EngineFuel you can use Spell Song for just about anything you want them to be so long as the song help bring up the necessary visualization and emotion for the spell you are casting. for instance this song, though the writer prolly never intended it to be, can be used for a cleansing and protection spell that is very potent
@southurnstarfall im pretty sure it is. because the web was initially just between the companions and existed without human intefereance or connection for centuries before vanyel messed with it.
