Bradley, what seemed to fix the starting issue was a new battery. I didn't originally suspect that because the battery was less than a year old but there was a bad cell in it. It will still happen here and there but haven't been able to discern a pattern so not sure if it is entirely solved or not.
I'm having the same problem with my 2012 Jetta TDI. I too changed the battery since I thought, maybe, the battery was too weak to turn over the engine. But after a new Bosch battery the problem seemed to go away, a few days after the new battery change the problem continued. There is no particular pattern, it sometimes happens and sometimes it doesn't.
this is why i wont buy a german car. a toyota or honda would NEVER do this in 100 years. german cars use TDI technology that looks glamorous on paper 30/50 mpg. but once the engine breaks down at like 90,000 miles, then your like fuck, should have bought a japanese car. tried and true, it just runs correctly. Advanced technology is not always better
We are having the same issue with our 2014 VW Passat TDI. We are taking it to the VW Dealership tomorrow. What did you do to repair it? We are tired of spending so much money on this car!!!

My leon 2.0tdi is same problem…how you fix this?
