Awesome SUV. Shame to Tahoe and Yukon looking so huge but interior 3rd row seating has no space for legroom.
I feel that this time around, VW has lost the track in building SUVs. I understand this was their first attempt but borrowing a few underpinnings from the Tiguan and Touareg would have made it look more stylish and luxurious than its boxy and tough appeal. Though this is their flagship offering, the design of their other SUVs is far more charming and desirable. Even the interior lacks the wow factor now as you rightly said, a lot many things like the steering wheel, centre console and the entire cockpit is reminiscent of other models like the Passat, CC, Arteon, Tiguan and even the Polo. Being offered as the range topping model, they could have kept the design special and a few features offered only on this model. With regard to its engine, 280 hp and 320 Nm of torque is what you get in the Arteon where it does a fantastic job but is that much oomph enough for a full sized seven seater SUV. I agree that in typical VW fashion, it is going to have soft touch materials, immaculate build quality and a high resale value as well. But a consumer seeks for a lot more these days and going by the recent competition standards, Tahoe or even the Traverse has a lot more to offer in terms of looks and feel, engine options and fuel efficiency. From the side, it looks like an MPV and I think the Mazda CX-9 and Honda Pilot are better rivals and a tad cheaper. VW might not be able to sell this car like hot cakes unlike their other few models and I also think many might shift from this and go for a Touareg saving many bucks and get the best.
