The 2015 Volkswagen Polo GTI might look like a subtle makeover, but it gets a bigger 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 189bhp and a manual six-speed gearbox.
Its extra power allows the smallest GTI to hit 62mph in 6.7 seconds, and handling tweaks promise to take the challenge to the Vauxhall Corsa VXR and Ford Fiesta ST.
