Hi, well the car is still alive and well and being used Winter 2013-14. During it’s not being used period this past Summer I have had the petrol tank off and fitted new hoses to it. Also given it a general lick and polish with Waxoyle / old engine oil underneath and cosmetic touch-ups Turtle Wax on the body.
In 2012 it had a sill weld and two new rear shock absorbers fitted. The clamping together point between the catalytic converter downpipe and first (main section) of exhaust is joined with a sleeve, and this requires new U-bolts / packing with exhaust putty about once a year. I’ve not had it welded so as not to cause damage to the cat. downpipe if I had to fit a new exhaust system — and the exhausts on these 2 litre Sports do go quite often.
The car is on Classic Insurance now. It cost me £140 fully comprehensive this last time. The question is: will a Vauxhall Frontera become a Classic Car? Yeah sure, the Insurance Company will insure it as so — but that is simply on it’s age. I suppose the word «Classic» is in the eye of the beholder. When it’s spotlessly clean it does draw attention from other road users, and on this basis alone I am using it with great care, as no way would anyone (I believe) find another one for sale like this. Yes, there will be other ones in this condition — but I suspect the owners, like myself, will be holding onto them.
The article on Used Car Expert offers some light on the subject, stating that it’s still sought after by «those in the know»: http://www.usedcarexpert.co.uk/cars/advice/frontera-plods-on-with-many-friends/6870/
Anyway that’s all for now. Call in again sometime.

Love it. What year is it?
@mathewharrison 1996 December.
You spent time and good money keeping that machine A1 and it shows, every engine has good and bad the distance between the two is the owner
@lloyd1006 Hi thanks for posting the video , I'm looking at two Frontera's as we need a new auto,is the insurance group cheap and is it worth getting one . How much does the tax and mot cost you ? I've seen a 1998 Frontera 2.0 sports transglobe today for the price of £790 (mot and taxed) which has only had one owner which has the anti theft system added, would you recommend it as a good buy?
That was 3 months ago. Guess you've found out by now. Would I recommend a Frontera as an everyday car? — absolutely not! Would I recommend it as a hobby / standby Winter ice and snow car? — most certainly yes. Mine is now stored till Autumn. A few jobs needed — new battery and 2 rear shocks. All easy.

Ive had a 96 apache 2.0 for a year now and its an amazing little offroader, I had a 90 defender before but this lil guy has been nothing less then awesome! had to do a few things myself, change the exhaust system after the previous owner welded the front and back together. changed about 40% of the fuel line too, but they were on their way out anyway. I doubt ill be getting rid of Tango for a long time.
Seems the Fronti is in good condition. Rare to find these Days. Shows again its all just about how you care and treat your car.
To be quite honest it would be easier to maintain three 1950s cars than this one 1996 4×4. A labour of love I guess 🙂
Hi guys, i'm from Russia. I lived in London for 1 year and i'm 100% agree with you. This car is not for everyday usage in your country ))) this is a great everyday car for Russia, even for Moscow. Take care ) and… good roads for you!
