Welcome to JDM Trivia #12 where I describe the Toyota Carina A60 history.
The Toyota Carina A60 started its life when Toyota decided to combine the platforms of the Corona, Carina and Celica. This delivered a floorpan that was identical for all three cars and some of the Corona and Carina body panels are even exchangeable.
This generation of the Toyota Carina was produced between September 1981 and April 1988. For Toyota this was considered to be a very long lasting production. It obviously helped that the Carina derived van stayed into production till April 1988, but also the sedan and coupe were available till the end of 1987.
This time I tried something different: I’m using a prezi presentation while narrating to the camera. It is a bit different than usual, but I think the slides made it look a lot better!

Please don't mind me for asking, but which carina did you own again?
it's a shame i never see A60's running around here. i always see the next generation though (which i like a lot), but with a terrible LHD conversion due to the stupid laws. i love the sportiness of the celica, but the practicality of the corona. the next generation came also with the 4A-GE that is the one i got in my celica. very good motor.

I love boxy 80s designs and I'm really liking the Carina Coupe (GT-R). Reminds me of the Volvo 780 Coupe Bertone (and other boxy coupés like the Ferrari 400i and the Honda Prelude mk2). My first car was another boxy 80s coupé, the Audi Coupé GT 2.2 (facelift, single headlamps, a little less boxy than pre-facelift because of the big bumpers), but the Audi has more of a Liftback rear styling, even though it only had a small boot lid. I shouldn't have sold it… but it was bankrupting me as a student and I could buy my grandfather's reliable Carina E 2.0 Liftback Aut!
