Bishop Arts Theatre Center presents The Monologue Project in Dallas, Texas livestreaming on the global, commons-based peer-produced HowlRound TV network at howlround.tv on Monday 20 November 2017 at 8:00 p.m. EST (New York) / 7:00 p.m. CST (Dallas) / 5:00 p.m. PST (San Francisco).

The Monologue Project invites you to a special event that celebrates Women of the African Diaspora and their impact on theater and the world. The event features some of Dallas’ most talented artists. We join in solidarity with the woman-driven activism of movements like Black Lives Matter, acknowledging the essential role of black women in America. The event will be followed by a discussion and call-to-action.

Join us for an afternoon of performance and activism. Writers from across the nation including such luminaries as Amy Evans, Pia Wilson, Charlayne Woodard, Dominique Morisseau, Mfoniso Udofia, Cori Thomas and Chisa Hutchinson have contributed audition-length monologues to this event, many of them original. Professional and student actors will perform the monologues, which span the gamut from intensely moving to intensely funny. The event is hosted by the following:

Advisory Committee Members: Siovhan Christensen, N’Jameh Camara, Ife Foy, Alexis Cash, Alesia Etinoff, Sara Williams, Dominique Brock and Dave Harris.
Gab Cody, Pittsburgh Regional Representative for the Dramatists Guild
Teresa Coleman Wash, Executive Artistic Director, Bishop Arts Theatre Center
Seth Cotterman, Marketing and Communications Consultant
Reginald Douglas, Artistic Producer of City Theater
Kyle Haden, Director and Assistant Professor at CMU
Gab Cody, organizer of the Pittsburgh event and brainchild of The Monologue Project commented, “We believe hearing voices that have not been heard and providing greater opportunity for Women of the African Diaspora will be of benefit to all.” The Monologue Project aims to increase the number of audition-length monologues available to Women of the African Diaspora. She adds, “We acknowledge those women who have already contributed to this canon and who have
paved the way for other writers and actors.”

Performances will also be scheduled for New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. After the Dallas performance Bishop Arts Theatre Center will launch the online platform for The Monologue Project in early 2018. The monologues will be free and available on the BATC’s website at bishopartstheatre.org.
