The Face of Imperialism

«Michael Parenti’s The Face of Imperialism is a powerful, frightening, and honest book. It will be hated by those who run the Empire, and it will be loved by people who are searching for truth amidst the piles of garbage of Western propaganda. Above all, this book will be like a bright spark of hope for billions of men, women, and children who are fighting this very moment for survival, defending themselves against the Empire and against all monstrous faces and masks of imperialism.»

—Andre Vltchek, author of Western Terror: From Potosi to Baghdad

  1. @PrometheanRunGood "Hedges . . . [is] a disaffected liberal."
We're arguing semantics, but I disagree. Over the past few years in his writings, Hedges — as his self-appointed project — has continually unearthed and resurrected America's radical past. In doing so he is squarely placing himself in the company of those radicals he so ardently admires: Dwight MacDonald and I.F. Stone (to name two). Woodrow Wilson was a liberal. Emma Goldman, whom Wilson had deported, was a radical.

Woodrow Wilson was a liberal. Emma Goldman, whom Wilson had deported, was a radical. Big difference.

  3. A few years ago Hedges was putting out too much hopelessness and cynicism for me to get into him much. Maybe it is a change in me, but I see him as very different in the last (?) 2 years . He's not so horribly horribly depressed. I just love and thoroughly approve of anything of his I come across now. Been delighted by Parenti for a long long time.

  4. ROME's imperialism was predicated on the nastiest mass murdering form of slavery.

  5. @bapyou I'm pretty sure Hedges thinks of himself as a liberal, though he probably doesnt think himself neo-liberal, which means he's a classical liberal a.k.a. libertarian.

  6. if the u.s. was a democracy i'd be all for invading indonesia and killing every last rich person there

  7. Chris Hedges also discusses the state-corporate system

  8. According to Chomsky, Parenti is a Marxist-Leninist.
Nonetheless, he is the third person I've read the most (after Chomsky and Dewey).

  9. I agree that State is dangerous, but "free market" doctrine promotes absolute power for private tyrannies that're unaccountable to the public—financial institutions, manufacturing corporations, etc. (Chomsky)

  10. Parenti says in one of his Interviews that the people calling him a marxists, don't know what they're talking about. He said he likes a few things the Soviet Union had, but doesnt consider himself a marxist.

  11. Parenti is not opposed to the idea of State, which I guess is why Chomsky called him a Marxist. an anarchist would oppose State; Marx sought a Stateless society ("Communism") but brought about only after a State of workers ("Socialism") is first created, leading to the dissolution.

  12. Is it true that the the United States of America is an empire run not by the Americans? And the US foreign policy does not reflect the American psyche, meaning it could have made somewhere for and against the interests of the unwary helpless American citizens?!

  13. Ahhh. You see i was going off of lectures. Thank you for the info!

  14. Harvard is full of jews. They were once forbidden to be admitted to Harvard but now they have more than made up for loss time.

  15. Googleplex is the garbage of Western propaganda.

    Fiat Libya Chrysler

    Simple.

  16. U. professor of economics Zagreb Croatia says War for land to acquire resources Libya Iraq maybe Iran EMPIRE needs resources to LIVE. USA by far is the only EMPIRE in Human History closest to FULL World Domination. Very few countries are not under USA empire boot.

  17. USA empire is run by power elites who rule USA empire They have this election process to amuse people and keep them believeing YOU are in POWER.

  18. there's always some self interested ahole who is willing to sponsor a church or a mosque but never a playground or a social service. if ever you doubted the intention behind houses of worship. clearly they are nothing but propaganda centers.

  19. Michael Parenti has to be one smart man. He does not read a speech, he does not wiggle around, he is a straight shooter, he bares his soul and shoots from the hip; and is the sharpshooter of the left. The man is amazing and looks strong and healthy and he is pushing 80 (vid seems to be 2011) in this discussion. Born 1933, today, 2015 he is 82ish.
A mind like Chomsky, but able to stir the heart. And never wavers from calling shit, shit.
Such an honour to walk this good earth at the same time this man is at his peek.
    Namaste and care,
    mhikl

  20. please recommend. him to others not well known

  21. Fuck all empires! Fuck the very concept of an empire!
