NEW FOR 2019
The least expensive way to get into a new Lexus will be the 2019 UX once the subcompact luxury crossover goes on sale in December 2018.

The 2019 Lexus UX 200 and UX 250h fit into the automaker’s lineup underneath other crossovers and SUVs that include the two-row NX, the two- and three- row RX, the three-row GX, and the three-rlw LX.
Available in UX 200 and UX 250h (hybrid) forms, the new Lexus will offer a full suite of active safety tech as standard equipment. The UX will also offer Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa integration, as well as paddle shifters on the F Sport model and neat taillights that, together, have 120 LEDs that stretch from one side of the car to the other.
PERFORMANCE AND FUEL ECONOMY
As Lexus’ entry-level model, the small UX 200, is powered by a 2.0-liter
naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine good for 168 hp. If you’d prefer to crawl through traffic silently, consider the UX 250h hybrid, which pairs an Atkinson cycle version of that engine with a hybrid system for 176 total system horsepower. The 2019 UX 200 is a front-drive crossover, whereas the 2019 UX 250h uses its hybrid system (an electric motor on the rear axle) for what Lexus calls eAWD. The UX 200 uses a CVT with a mechanical first gear to provide better feel off the line.
Fuel economy is projected to hit 33 mpg in combined city/highway conditions for the UX 200 and a combined 38 mpg for the UX 250h hybrid. For comparison, the larger and more powerful 2018 NX gets 25 combined mpg as a front-drive gas model and 31 combined mpg as an all-wheel-drive hybrid model. Up to 43 mph, the UX 250h’s hybrid system can send around 80 percent of its power to the rear wheels if it detects the rear wheels losing traction.
The UX 250h hybrid is the first Lexus model to offer technology that tracks driving habits and road conditions to help optimize when the crossover charges the battery. If the UX 250h senses it’s about to go down a hill, Lexus says the car will use extra electric-motor power so that it can fully recharge itself on the way down the hill.
