I’ve put a long lead in so that the situation can be fully appraised.
Of course, I caught up at the lights and said «look how far you got». The driver insisted that I «shouldn’t be cycling in the middle of the road». I replied that I should be cycling in the middle of the lane, to which the driver replied «not if you aren’t going at 30mph». I didn’t have time to ask which highway code rule says that.
There is so much ignorance amongst motorists about correct cycling practice, and there’s something about being behind the wheel of a car (especially a BMW or an Audi, sorry) that makes them believe they are experts on the subject when they know nothing.

Give him his due, he did actually cut in correctly — albeit pointlessly. — unless you feel he half intended to squeeze past you.
He's a bit impatient with the beep, but at least he didn't cut you up. I'd have used exactly the same road position here though — primary centre of left lane. There's no room for a safe overtake unless the driver uses the lane next to you.
Also the traffic speed here is less than 30mph — which ruins his 30mph argument…..
What he really meant was that you should be on the left where can overtake you within inches !
Obviously two lanes wasn't enough for him!
Why does everyone assume it was a "he"? I deliberately didn't specify in the description. 🙂
BMW driver lol why did he feel the need to use his horn when he overtook you without any drama, other than to show their displeasure 🙁
Yes, the pass was fine, which is good. The reason for posting is the genuine belief that the driver holds that I should not be cycling "in the middle of the road" (which actually means in the middle of the lane). There is a dire need for an education campaign explaining how cyclists should be expected to position themselves in the road, and how drivers should behave around them.
@scousefly13 Just because you are too thick to see what the isue is here is no reason to be abusive. Blocked.
What a total waste of time — desperate to get in front, but didn't get him anywhere and you were moving with the traffic anyway. This driver must have a hormone imbalance.
