The 190 kW (258 hp) strong 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engine with common-rail direct injection gives the X-Class even more assertiveness with great torque levels already available in the low revs range. Whether driven in a sporty way, whether the focus is on comfortable long-distance journeys or whether you’re heading off-road, the V6 guarantees superior and efficient traction. The standard 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission just works – there’s no interruption in tractive power during gearshifts. That leads to better driving characteristics on climbs, off-road terrain and when towing a trailer. Further advantages of the 7G-TRONIC PLUS transmission are rapid gear changes and low revs. This has an especially positive effect on the efficiency and noise comfort of the vehicle. Steering wheel gearshift paddles also allow the driver to change gear manually.

The 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive with low range transmission ratio and optional rear-axle differential lock guarantees the best possible performance and traction on the most varied of surfaces. The rear-biased distribution of the all-wheel drive system ensures increased driving dynamics and higher lateral acceleration on the road as well as better traction when accelerating. Optimal traction in almost any terrain is guaranteed thanks to the continuously variable longitudinal differential lock. Drivers can choose from three different all-wheel drive modes: 4MAT for improved driving dynamics, 4H for better traction off-road and 4L mode with standard reduction gear. Also available upon request is a 100-percent locking differential for the rear axle.
