20-year-old South African man accuses Mercedes of stealing his
designs for the X Class
A 20-year-old South African man from Limpopo has accused Mercedes-Benz of ripping him off by allegedly
stealing his designs for their X Class
— The accusation was published on social media by the Twitter parody account Man’s Not Barry Roux
— According to the messages, the young man send Mercedes-Benz South Africa his ideas in 2013 and they
allegedly used them for the X Class without his permission
Mercedes-Benz unveiled its new, highly anticipated Mercedes-Benz X Class in 2018, and the vehicle is absolutely
breathtaking.
A first of its kind, the bakkie created quite the hype in South Africa, but one Limpopo man, D’wayne KxRomeo, has
accused the vehicle giant of stealing his ideas.
Parody Twitter account Man’s Not Barry Roux posted the alleged messages between KxRomeo and MercedesBenz
South Africa in 2013 on social media.
«Did Mercedes Benz stole this design from a 20yrs old boy from Limpopo?», the post read.
According to the alleged messages Man’s Not Barry Roux posted on Twitter, KxRomeo send Mercedes-Benz
South Africa a couple of his designs in 2013 as an attempt to pitch them an idea.
In one of the alleged Facebook messages, he is seen asking Mercedes-Benz South Africa not to steal his designs
because he wanted to be the one who came up with that concept.
«Hi Romeo, not to worry, we haven’t stolen your design. In fact, we’d like to post it on our wall, if you’re okay with
that. We love getting input from our customers», Mercedes SA allegedly responded.
However, at this stage, the accusations made by KxRomeo is only that- accusations. Mercedes-Benz has not yet
responded and a lot of tweeps felt the «kid» stole his designs from Nissan Nivara, with whom Mercedes teamed up
with to create the X Class.
