Bimmer BMW e36 320i parking brake rusty and stuck to break up the rust with a hammer.

Here is how I got the hand brake to release the rear rotors on this 4-door silver BMWe36.

In the video I use a hammer, car jack stands for safety and the car jack from the trunk of the BMW 320i 1994. On a flat paved surface I was able to easily jack/life the bimmer up by hand.

Using the hammer on the rotors after removing the rear tires to access the rusty break drums. I placed the Larin 3 Ton Jack Stand in place where I could be sure the car wouldn’t fall when I removed the jack to take of the other tire.

Striking the rusty stuck rear break rotors with the hammer knocked out a bunch of iron oxide and freed up the braking system.

I thought I would have some fun with the editing on the video so I used Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 to cut together the video recorded from a Canon Vixia HG20 camcorder.

Translate to German it’s a BMW as you know.

Working on the rear axle e Hinterachse (-n) (rear axle)

brake n. e Bremse (-n)
brake fluid e Bremsflüssigkeit
brake light s Bremslicht (-er)
brake lining r Bremsbelag (-e)
brake pad r Bremsklotz (-klötzer)
braking distance r Bremsweg (-e)

There are five lugnuts to remove from the tire before you can access the breaks. Auto-repair tip: Use some kind of spray lub to help loosen up the lugnuts if you can’t remove them.

BMW cars come with jack/lift port holes that may also be rusty and you may not be able to use them. In this case you’ll have to find a friend who has the right tools to help out.

Because the car was sitting for a few weeks the battery went dead and I had to jump start the car. I placed the jumper cables on the strut bolt and the positive lead on the red battery wire.

This BMW held the battery in the boot/trunk of the car Accessing the truck is not possible when you have a dead battery because I didn’t have the key.

Before I took off the tires to release the hand break I tried to just use the manual gear shifting to rock the car back and forth to help knock loose the break pads.

That didn’t work.

The car cost 2000 dollars and had about 150k miles on the motor, legend has it the car is still going to this day.
