  1. Couple things. You'll blow up your brake booster by not removing the brake fluid cap trying to push the piston back in. Please don't use a screwdriver to push the piston back in. You run a very likely possibility of cracking the piston (learned this one the hard way!) c-clamp and a piece of board.

Other than that, looks good. You should invest in an impact.

  2. Video wasn't perfect but still excellent in my book.  One of the better car videos I have seen,  You have a lot of money tied up in your tools.  I have replaced half shafts in front wheel drive cars a few years ago and think I could do this job, but not as well as you.  And I am 75 now and not as mobile as I used to be. But I don't have a lift and would have to buy some more tools, so I will probably leave that up to the shop.  Still helpful to know what is involved even if some one else does it.

  3. You are an excellent backyard mechanic.  When I saw this video for a while I thought you were working in a professional shop. I am a so so mechanic, but my dad was very good mechanically.  He grew up during the depression in a large family and they didn't have much money so they had to learn to fix things.  He and his brother built the house that I grew up in.

  4. I also learned a lot from my dad, but it wasn't always fun.  I remember holding the flashlight for him on cold winter nights when he was fixing his car so he could go to work the next day.  The other day I was at Autozone and there was a guy standing at the counter with his son, age around 9 I would guess. So I started talking to the boy.  I said do you help your dad work on cars and he nodded yes.  Then I told him " when I was a boy I had to help my dad work on his cars too, and I hated every minute of it, but I am glad I did because I learned to work on cars and now I can work on my own cars" . I just wish I had been more interested and paid more attention to him.

  5. Your making me laugh, when you talk about holding the flashlight it brought back a memory of mine of holding a drop light for my dad, and of course I held it so I could see and not him and he would grab it and my hand and turn it so he could see, this would repeat several times with him getting a little madder each time. oh the good times lol wouldn't trad them for anything. HAHAHA

  6. I replaced a lot of these! The part that holds the bearing in place is called the steering knuckle. On those Saturn cars, sometimes the bearing actually eats away at the steering knuckle walls and you end up replacing that, the bearing along with the rest of the assembly.

  7. I hoped that you atleast torqued the axle shaft nut to specifications, it requires 254 lbs of torque … trust me you won't be able to do that with a normal wrench no matter how hard you try, when you tight it, you actually hear it crack in place….best of travels!

  8. im glad i ordered a wheel bearing, noticed a noise a while back ago, and ordered it, but then thought i look  at the caliper/ brake, thinking it was stuck, i thought i fixed it, haha but then the noise returned a few days later but now its gettting louder so got to get it replaced before the weather gets cold here, i rebuilt a saturn vue awd v6. runs like a champ. nowadays cars are running more reliant on electronics, thus making it harder to work on with just tools in the backyard.

  9. not a bad video, but one question.. before reassembly, why not clean up any bolts while they are off? use a wirebrush to get any gunk or rust off? preventative maintenance. Also, ALWAYS use torque wrench. I have been doing automotive work for 25 yrs now. My dad taught me starting at age 6. Always use a torque wrench where a torque spec is required…

  10. One of the most PAINFUL videos I've ever seen. This guy is CLUELESS w/ a capital C. Started losing me w/ inaccurate part descriptions (bearing housing is actually steering knuckle) and then progressed to wrong procedures. Dismantling the ENTIRE brake caliper is UNNECESSARY; YES, the hub does come out by puller, although a slide hammer is more efficient. Don't, DON'T, DO NOT EVER hit a brake rotor there!!! There's a 50/50 chance you fracture an $80 part. Hit on centre near studs & that w/ a dead blow hammer, NOT steel. FYI; that snap ring has NOTHING to do w/ keeping hub in place, for bearing ONLY. And that's when I gave up. Time (NOT) well wasted.

  11. It was nice of this guy to make this video, however don't follow the procedure used to press in the hub.  You MUST apply pressure at the appropriate place.  Google this to find out exactly how.  On a different note, you also do not need to take the snap ring out while the knuckle is on the car.  It's a lot easier to get the snap ring out while the knuckle is on the bench.  Also you MUST torque the axle nut to 148 ft lbs.  Do this with no (or minimal) weight on the hub.  Waiting until after you install the tire and drop the car down will dimple the bearings.  Failure to pay attention to proper bearing pressing and torque procedures will have you re-replacing within a year.  (I suspect also that today's bearings are junk compared to the good ole days.)
