This is a quick demonstration video of various items being subject to a short circuit with an EV battery pack of 250 volts. EV West shows what happens when a regular 12 volt automotive fuse holder is used in a high voltage electric vehicle application. Unfortunately the fruit and other food items never exploded. Please practice safe fuses.
For more information, visit the EV West site for proper fuse applications. http://evwest.com

cool!
I think those florescent globes have a switch mode power supply in them that works in countries like where I live (Australia) where we are on 240V mains.
I think it could be also useful to show that you can't use the maintenance switch as an emergency switch under load because of the big arcing and the following fire.
Should go on a hunt with a multimeter…. what about the ring or watch across 2 terminals "myth".
I hope you guys stay around cause as soon as I can .. . . I want to convert some small car……..or kit car to full electric. Just the thought of no gas pumps, and car payments keep getting better and better every day.
Should probably add the disclaimer: "No fruits or vegetables were harmed during the making of this video…" (after all you guys are in California…. 😉
That was great!!!
We give classes on ARC Flash at work. These plasma balls of energy can do some real damage they are about 20,000-40,000 degrees F…
You need to stick one of those fuses inside a hot dog or watermelon 🙂
Ah guys to get that hot dog to explode you need more voltage say 400v with a good level of amps, you'll get the results your looking for .. 250 isn't going to do the job ..
what motors do u use in coversions? and where do u guys purchase them?
Love it!
this is a good video. i teach level one hybrids and will show this video to the students so that they don't use 12 volt components when testing a HV battery. if that is ok with you.
Maybe we should start using a hotdog as a fuse? LOL
