You fight for money , PERIOD .
Where there really isn't a boot like most hatch-backs, your rear passengers are literally in the 'boot-space' directly in front of the rear-bumper (although these days that's flush with the tailgate & little more than a piece of foam-filled plastic!
Not saying all small vehicles are unsafe, rather that you don't buy the cheapest new car when an older vehicle may be a better choice!
I have been saying it for years, why doesn't the IIHS do rear-end crash tests? They do everything to taking the front seats and slamming the forwards to test for whiplash, but do not test how the whole car would perform.
I haven't seen any test. studies on a collision impact to a used quarter panel installed.
