This stuff is slowly seeping in. I was intimidated by the prospect of building my own EV, but it seems a lot easier than building an IC car. We'll see how it goes.
@JapanChannel, the "holster" is just that, somewhere to store the plug when the charger is not in use. It's not an outlet.

You might be aware by now that Bosch Power Max comes with a 3 year warranty if purchased through Bosch. As a Bosch CEC, the Power Max is one of the most popular units I install. I'm thinking of installing the Bosch Power Express even thou it's a little pricey for what I actually need, but it has the options for adjusting output currents I may need in the future. I haven't ruled out the ClipperCreek. Best regards.
I don't understand why these are so expensive. They aren't chargers. The chargers are built in to the cars. These don't convert power from AC to DC or step the power down or anything important or expensive. These are just cords with some cut off circuitry. They're all far more expensive than they should be. They also put them in these enormous plastic boxes that are mostly empty. So the packaging and shipping costs are greater. It's a very un-green product category.
I wonder if you can have a 6000 watt inverter feeding the EV charger?. I fancy a bank of batteries say at 48v to be charged by the sun for a totally off grid solution…
I must be missing something. What is the advantage of these boxes over a simple outlet? Don't EVs come with a cord you can plug into a 240 Volt outlet? Seems as if the only advantage is that you can use the cable from these boxes instead of getting a cable out of the car and then putting it back. Is that the main difference?

The 14-50 is an RV and electric oven plug. The 6-50 is common on home arc welders. Also don't run 30 amps through a 30 Amp plug continuously or it can overheat and possibly catch fire. It needs to be derated. That's why the 30 Amp EVSEs use a 50 Amp plug. Technically these are EVSEs, not chargers. For Level 2 AC charging, the charger is built into the car and the EVSE is essentially a power line adapter with communication to the charger in the car.
Speaking of charging. I'm not sure if this has already been addressed at this point in time, but I would really like to see electric vehicles that are able to charge on the fly. One bank of batteries in use, while the other is charging. Essentially making available travel distance unlimited. Never any need to plug in to recharge. Now THAT would would be a huge selling feature. Any thoughts?
