  1. Agree model 3 only one version of ev , at present lhd only . A lot of misinformation from major media providers , this is a very good show and now that you are on your own in front of camera has not taken away from it , actually show one of the best on the Webb

  2. Great show, Ken. The length was just right for me and production quality is great. I like how you touch on some new developments/start up companies as well as current trends. I remember how Tesla's main mission is not to "be the best", but to stimulate the transition to a renewable future. It seems like that is exactly what they are doing — pulling other companies into the future while they drag their feet. LOL

  3. I am pro Tesla, for what they deliver today. I do not believe the movie on self driving (on Tesla website) to be factual. It is two years old. Almost none of the feature can be seen in production. I like the self driving in I, Robot much better. That actually proves that Hollywood has self driving cars, or does it?

  4. Battery Swap for EV does not work. TESLA showed its battery swap for the model S and while it could change 3 battery in the time it takes to fill up on gas, the cost and Transport of the battery packs are problematic , also the battery swap system has to use an array of electric screwdrivers to dock and undock the battery, as well as needing a electric lift to lower the spent battery and to install the NEW battery. I think the future holds a Wireless Charging system that uses a Broadband IP signal, but that development is in its Early Stages.

  5. EV revolution — I think that the prediction that EV chargers and battery swap at Existing fuel stations wont happen, far to Dirty and Smelly for a EV customer to want to do Battery Swap there or even EV Fast charging. eventually the Land occupied by FUEL stations will be Reclaimed as the station is CLOSED and Decomissioned. the a purpose built EV park would go up on the former site , after its cleaned up first.

  6. EV revolution — the Time of the Hybrid has passed, here in North America we have had Hybrid cars for over a decade. and Today the BEV is here, If you want any kind of Range or Performance go for a Tesla, but the EV produced by ICE car makers are good for urban use only, they are what's called Compliance vehicles , I'm talking about the BOLT, KONA, NERO and the LEAF. they get less than 200 miles frequently and are small compared to the Compact Sedan Tesla offers. they don't offer that ICE car power or Speed but are Efficient cars. the ICE car makers are playing a waiting game , they want to Let Someone Else Do It for them. as they don't manufacture their own Drivetrain or Batteries like Tesla does, yet they are a Bigger car company with Resources.

  7. I think it’s hard to argue that Tesla aren’t the best in almost every aspect. But as a Renault Zoe owner and soon to be Smart ForTwo EQ owner, everyone is on the same team as far as I’m concerned. Renault and Smart both could do a huge amount more for EV adoption, and that frustrates me immensely. But they are making affordable, practical, small (although the Zoe isn’t that small really) cars that Tesla aren’t making. They complement Tesla’s offering brilliantly. And they are fantastic cars in their own right.

I know Smart are going all EV by 2020 and that’s great. But if they’re to avoid their sales going off a cliff, they do need to bump up the range to approx 100 real miles at least. Almost any Smart buyer will be fine with the current range of 60-80 once they are used to living with it over a week or so. But the issue will be getting them to buy it in the first place. It’ll be hard to get them in the door with the range they’re currently offering.

One thing I often see is people criticising the performance or acceleration in particular of the Zoe compared to other EVs. And that is true. But what they should be doing is comparing its performance to similar ICE cars. They would all be left standing by the Zoe. Yet no one ever mentions that.

Same thing with the I-Pace. It may be inefficient compared to Tesla and other EVs, but why are we forgetting that Jaguar make almost exclusively ICE cars that this thing makes look like Fred Flintstone’s car?

  8. Another excellent program and a very good overview of changes in the EV world, Ken! It seems that many auto manufacturers are limited by availability of battery packs. I wonder if Tesla will consider selling packs as Gigafactory production expands. That would be a good revenue stream for Tesla and a good way to accelerate the transition to clean transportation which is part of their mission statement. Standardized packs could simplify EV production and reduce costs, and modular packs that could be exchanged for different sizes would accommodate different range and budget requirements within a single vehicle platform.

  9. As Elon has pointed out — 30,000 is about the maximum for ZEV credits to sell ICE cars.
So this is the "proof" they consider the Kona a "compliance car" for their ZEV states.
Interesting to see IF these vehicles get sold outside the ZEV states.

stopping for pedestrians — imagine that — it was 2 years ago — better safe than sorry?
IF it was GM they might just run them …

  10. Keep up the good work, Ken. I agree that we should not start an "in fight" in the EV world over the brands — every EV sold is a good thing. That being said, I hope that Tesla Model 3 will be an incredible success and force legacy manufacturers to go "all in" when it comes to producing EVs.

  11. I agree with your last statement about EV’s being all great advancement, but none of big auto makers are trying very hard, (except for the leaf maybe) in the quality, quantity and price. If they were as serious about EV/ battery manufacturing as Tesla, Tesla wouldn’t be the go to electric car. I predict that it will take years before the truly adopt that technology for their mainstream vehicles and most of the tech they use will be stolen from Elon, BYD and Bosch
