Custom Paint Jobs, such as a fade can be achieved by using this paint blending technique. In this video we demonstrate how to blend car paint. This is the process of spraying new paint and blending it into the old color to produce a color match. Ideally, you want to mix a color that is a blendable match. However, in this video we are mixing a color that is too dark, which will help us demonstrate the concept of a blend. Perhaps, you want to do a fade job of fading one color into another color! You could use this technique or tip to achieve that result. NOTE: I had some question about the clear that I am using. This is not regular clear coat. It is a base coat that is clear (blender). Watched a dozen other videos on paint blending and they were all fairly useless.
Your two blending videos are excellent; finally understand the process.
Thank you sir.
when you mix that clearcoat with the basecoat/reducer for the transitional blend layers, is that a 2-part clear, and are you adding any catalyst/hardner, or just the clear?
Good Video
when you added the clear coat to the basecoat did you add hardener.
it seems like too much work doing it like that. why dont you use a wet bed instead? i will be nice if you can show how to do a blend with a wet bed
What an excellent way to demonstrate how to blend. Thank you sir!!
Donnie , a bit curious as to exactly how you mixed the silver base coat with the dbc 500… I'm new to the blending world and not exactly sure how its mixed in. do you go ahead and mix the dbc 500 1:1. then mix the base assuming 1:1 then mix those? thanks for your awesome videos again.
I couldn't here a damn thing on this video except my neighbors illegally shooting off fireworks…!
S2K Fender
who sells those pouring caps for the reducer cans?
does anyone know how to get the funnel pouring thing on the can of reducer?
I have some urethane "base clear binder" is this what I can use to mix with my urethane base color for blending?
Why not just reduce the base further after a color hiding coat? Extend it out, reducing each time.
hi question.. i have a few tiny spots and some scratches I wanna fix — can I just use like paint from a small bottle with a tiny brush? would it be good enough? I don't want to and don't have the gear for spray painting
Hi Donnie I love the technique and to be honest its different from all the other blending methods. Can your method be used within a panel where that you have to blend the Clear-coat finish?
Other techs spray their blending-clear 1st the base 2nd and the Clear-coat (acrylic) 3rd,while as for you where you mixed your bases with the clear-base as you approach the existing painted surface. So once again how would you blend you Clear-Acrylic or do you Re-clear the entire panel?
Is there a video where he explains his prep work before this?

I noticed you are using ppg products. My question is this. Can you mix the other brands the same way? Mixing you blender and then mixing your base with the blender? Cause I've been told that you have to spray the blender on the panel, let it flash and then come back and blend your base, when it comes to solvent paint. We spray waterborne paint where I work so it's a little different then solvent.
Hi love ur videos they help alot little confused, where u mixing clear coat an reducer with paint.
If the new paint I will be using is a tad lighter than the original paint, how do I blend it to the next panel? I believe the process you explain works well when the new paint is darker, so when you mix it with the transparent base, it kinda gets lighter so as to match the next body part. But, if my repair results lighter, how do I blend it to the original darker paint?
Do you mix base and clear 50/50?
