I’ve recently changed the bi-xenon low beam bulb in my headlight, it was pretty quick and much cheaper than the dealership. I used the wrong bulb in the video however the process of swapping it out remains the same. Available to answer questions. Good luck.

  1. hey, so my car has the bi-xenon bulbs however i was using the halogen H7s in the video, so foolishly i had the wrong replacement bulb. i ended up buying a xenon bulb and it worked great. So check if you have a xenon or halogen bulb then buy the proper replacement. I think the z4 stock option is H7 halogen unless you upgraded your lights

  2. Thanks for the post, man! What Xenon Bulb did you buy? Is there a thing as Bi_Xenon bulb?

  3. No such thing as bi-xenon bulb (not sure why they call it bi-xenon). What happens is that when you turn on high beams the xenon low beam bulb gets brighter and a halogen high beam comes on, so total light output increases.

So you need to replace your bulb with a 'regular' xenon bulb. I bought the original (OEM) lights, do a search on ebay for this: GE LIGHTING D2S X 1 BULB 53500 HID 35W REPLACEMENT 4300K XENON GERMANY HEADLIGHT

  4. why didn't you take off the wheel and remove the light?

  5. you can only kidding O.O? if your car calls d2s xenon bulb will have to use the same without saying that if you connect the lamp in the reactor, the risk of causing a fire. 12volt halogen / xenon 23.000volt

who sold it to you was cheating you 😛

  6. Is it possible to change the blinker or indicator light without removing the wheel?

  7. you can take the wheel off if you want. But some people dont have access to a jack stand….

  8. yes you should be able to replace that bulb without taking the wheel off. It's a little cramped but i think it was possible.

search "Changing BMW Z4 Front Blinker Bulbs" on youtube, someone made a video.

  9. Quick question @Tyrone Tracy, when changing the lights do you have to get the light programmed b/c I'm getting told that alot outhere in GA?

  10. hey do you mind me asking where did you get your bi-xenon bulb from and how much did it cost you.
Thank you for posting the video btw… it really helps.

  11. i didn't get the light programmed. Just take out old one and put in new one. What does programming the light mean? I dont think there's a circuit in there, circuity should be outside applying or not applying voltage to the bulb, all i did was replace the bulb (not the circuit controlling it). Maybe they mean headlight leveling, my car levels the headlights automatically. i'm sure there are videos on how to make sure your car's headlights are level.

  12. hey, yea hoping the video helped people out. i got the correct replacement bulb from ebay.com. Just search "GE LIGHTING D2S X 1 BULB 53500 HID 35W REPLACEMENT 4300K XENON GERMANY HEADLIGHT". cost is about $60. i'm sure you can go to your local dealership and they'll sell you the part, might be more expensive, maybe 80 or 90 dollars.

  13. Great instructions mate, just changed low beam lights on my Z4 following this video without removing the tires.

  14. Watched the video and was able to swap out each light in less than 5 min.  Thanks!

  15. Thank you very much for the detailed video.

  16. how did you get those halos around your lowbeams?

  17. Thanks so much for this — helped loads 🙂

  18. When you disconnect a battery always remove the earth lead first! If not, you can weld a spanner between the positive and the chassis!

  19. you're an idiot. You put in H7 halogen bulb! You need D2S  bulb for that headlight!!!!

  20. Great tutorial!  swapped out my xenon's following this tutorial.

    Thanks!

  21. This video was very, very helpful and we really appreciate it.  Here are a few additional notes.  The plug did not fall out of the ballast.  It is pushed out when you turn the ballast to remove it.  This is a built-in safety mechanism so you don't get juiced.  Because of this, you must reinstall the ballast before reconnecting the wire.  If the ballast won't go on the bulb, you may have to align the white nylon ring so the notch in it lines up with the notch on the black part of the ballast.  This slot is for the "pin" on the side of the bulb.
We followed this procedure to replace the bulb on a 2003 Z4.  On our car, the same bulb is both low and high beam.  It appears that a shield blocks part of the light in one of the modes.  The separate H7 bulb that is next to the xenon (and is shown as lit in the video) never lights on this model and I'm not sure why it is there.  The dealer had no explanation.

  22. Thanks for the video bud. It's very helpful

  23. Thank you so much for this tutorial! Now I don't have to go to stealership to get either ballast or bulb replaced. I think your bulb is the same one in bimmian except you need to get retrofit kit for xenon lights (longer ones). Am I right?

  24. Dani Dani:

Hi. Great video. The lightbulb clip fell off when I pulled the bad bulb out. Any ideas how to reattach the bulb clip? Thanks

  25. Successful or not, your guide helped me with 3 bulbs and saved me hundreds from the stealers. Thank you!

  26. Thanks for putting up this video. I have a 2007 BMW M Coupe and it worked exactly the same. Your instructions were very helpful. I would of probably broke something if I didn't watch prior. ^5!!

  27. Thanks! My 2003 Z4 passenger side just went out (205K miles, 13 years = pretty long life bulb). Went to O'Reilly to buy replacement, not knowing about Halogen vs. HID option. Luckily, counter guy, Ty H., was knowledgeable — asked me if they flickered or grew in brightness when turning on. Answer Yes = HID = D2S. Bad news = $100 price. Other bad news, light package, Sylvania web page, and owner's manual warn about high voltage and death. (Owner's manual says for Halogen, do yourself, for HID, go to dealer.) Your video gave me the courage to defy death, and attempt the swap. Your video made it easy, and all went well. Note, though, that the D2S bulb has to be properly oriented, as the socket has slots to ensure orientation (unlike the Halogen). The outside wire from the top of the bulb goes on the bottom. Also, as someone else posted, the wire to the ballast pops off when you turn the ballast; you don't put the wire back until the ballast is mounted on the bulb. Thanks!

  28. Unbeleavable! Never seen such an idiot putting himself into a very dangerous situation. It's quite obvious that a normal H7 bulb want fit exactly to this housing. The most dangerous thing are the highly powered contacts on the backside of the Xenon ballast. I was wondering why his didn't end up in a huge shortcircuit followed by a veritable fire.

  29. Always disconnect the Neg, never the Pos, reason if That pos cable hits metal while the Neg is connected your going to short your system out. Then your going to have some serious problems

  30. Thanks for this video — followed it step by step and easily replaced my bulb. I did have one tricky issue. Inside the ballast, there’s a plastic ring with slots that need to align with the openings that go over the prongs on the bulb. My ring kept moving out of alignment when I tried to turn the ballast back on, so it wouldn’t lock down. The ring was easily aligned with a small screwdriver and then installed as normal.
