You may remember when I tested my Casio Exilim EX-S10 when I first got it by showing the junk I have in my room. Because of several problems with the Casio Exilim EX-S10 that arose in November, including a cracked LCD screen and muffled microphone, I decided to use my Christmas money to buy a new Casio Exilim EX-S8, which was on sale for $80! Instead of showing all of the junk in my room again, I decided that now since I have my driver’s license, I can just go to Columbia and take a few elevator videos to try it out. I first started by driving all the way to Lexington’s industrial region, and then taking a video of Interstate 20 from there all the way to Interstate 26 and 126. Then I went into Columbia and film a few elevator videos to try out the new camera. Since this isn’t a timelapse, I decided to edit out many parts of the trip, since most of it is boring.

The camera’s video files are raw AVI files, which have an incredibly huge file size, and an 8 GB memory card can only hold 35 — 45 elevator videos, which is why I bought a second 8 GB memory card. Also to make sure these videos don’t fill up my hard-drive, I bought an external hard-drive to archive videos that have already been uploaded or that will never be uploaded. Once I compress these videos with the H.264 compression, the file size will decease dramatically, yet the extremely good video and sound quality the new camera returns will be preserved.

Camera Specs.

-4x Optical Zoom
-SD or HD Video, 4:3 or 16:9
-Lithium Ion NP-80 Battery: 3.7V, 700 mAh, 2.6 Wh

  1. i am wondering a few things (technical with u driving)
1 when did u get your licence (seem young in my book to get a licence)
2 how do u mount your camera
    3 nice turbo
what are some restrictions for teens in SC

  2. @shsav2012 I got my license back in November. My camera was mounted on a tripod, which was placed in such a position it wouldn't move. My car (which is actually my mom's car) is not a sports car, it is a 2006 Nissan Altima that has about 62,000 miles on it. I just revved it up when I got on the interstate. I am one of the last people in South Carolina that can get the underage restricted at 15, since they raised the age requirement for people born after 1995.

  3. @shsav2012 With the underage restricted in South Carolina, you can drive from 6 AM to 6 PM (8 PM during DST), and I think you can only have a limited amount of passengers under 18. The book also says you cannot drive into another state, but really whether it is legal to drive outside of the state or not depends on the other states' laws. I am trying to see if I can drive into Georgia or North Carolina with my underage restricted.

  4. was looking on google maps today and noticed a way to avoid going through malfunction junction as u call it if u r going to downtown take exit 63 off of I20 and take a right at the end of the ramp then follow bush river road to colonial life blvd W and and it turns into I 126 E and follow that to downtown it drops you off at elmowood ave and huger street

  5. @musicfreakcc My car (actually my mom's car) is a 2006 Nissan Altima, nothing too special. My camera's battery lasts for maybe about 40 to 60 elevator videos when fully charged. However, you may need two 8GB memory cards if you want to film more than 40 elevator videos in a day with the S8.

  6. How is it HD? If the video resolution for an EX-S8 is 848X480?

  7. Would you recommend this video camera
    or the
    Casio EX-ZS10

  8. @PedrazaProductions If you want a small pocket cam for amateur photography and/or video, this camera is a good option. This camera is not designed for high-end video making and professional photography.

  9. @EmmaWoodard7 I have noticed that on some other new camcorders as well. Try using Quicktime or any other video editing software. Windows Movie Maker is basic and easy to use but is extremely limited. Also, try using the software the manufacturer provides you. Sometimes companies will use weird "encrypted" video files that would force you to use their software.

  10. @MrDialxxx The original file is a raw AVI file, which is a huge format, and can take a while to upload depending on your uploading speed. I usually compress the video into the H.264 format (which converts it to MOV), which dramatically decreases the file size while preserving most of the video quality.
