BMW E92 E93 LCI 3 Series Outer Rear Light Replacement

This was carried out on my E93 2011 LCI Model which should be the same
for all the E90s

Replacing the outer housing of an LED rear light on a BMW E92 or E93 can be a delicate process. Here’s a general guide, but always consult your owner’s manual and consider seeking professional help if you’re unsure:

1. Gather Your Materials:
New Outer Housing: Ensure you purchase the correct replacement part for your specific model and year.
Plastic Trim Removal Tools: These will help prevent damage to the surrounding trim and clips.
Phillips-Head Screwdriver: May be needed to access certain areas.
Gloves: Optional, but recommended to protect your hands.

2. Access the Rear Light Assembly:
Open the Trunk: Access the rear light assembly from the inside of the trunk.
Remove any Interior Trim Panels: Carefully remove any trim panels that obstruct access to the rear light housing. Use plastic trim removal tools to avoid damage.

3. Detach the Old Housing:
Disconnect the Electrical Connector: Carefully unplug the electrical connector from the rear light assembly.
Remove the Mounting Screws or Clips: Carefully remove any screws or clips that secure the old housing to the vehicle.
Gently Separate the Housings: Carefully separate the old outer housing from the inner assembly. This may require some gentle prying, but be cautious to avoid breaking any clips or damaging the inner components.

4. Install the New Housing:
Align the New Housing: Carefully align the new outer housing with the inner assembly.
Secure the Housing: Reinstall any screws or clips that secure the new housing to the vehicle.
Reconnect the Electrical Connector: Carefully plug the electrical connector back into the new housing.

5. Reinstall Trim Panels:
Reinstall any removed trim panels: Carefully reinstall all the trim panels that you removed earlier.

6. Test the Rear Lights:
Turn on the Ignition: Turn on the ignition and check that all rear lights are functioning correctly.

Important Notes:
This is a general guide. The specific steps and procedures may vary depending on the exact model and year of your BMW E92 or E93.
