LOW TENSION PISTON RINGS in BMW M54 and M52 tu ?
Both engines shares low tension ring technology but many people saying only about M54 engine and blaming LTPR for oil burning because they not sealing properly. In this test I’m showing you the difference between two low tension rings 1.5mm from M52tu and 1.2mm from M54 BMW engine.

somethings on these cars arent super consistent like some z3s some e36 e39 e46s had LSD from factory just a matter of what was in the parts bin at that time. two major differences are m54 has thinner walls and intake manifold shape for higher rpm +4k. the difference could be because the m54 has an oversquare bore. compensate and they will both have similar tolerances
so whats better seal m54 or m52tu rings in m54? about to wrap up a rebuild but still dont know which rings are better?
wow cool intro
Could you do that with m52&m54 oil rings? 🙂
To improve fuel economy, the friction must be reduced, so the car owners pay in oil topups in addition.
original or mahle rings? what to buy for engine rebuild?
