Lexus ls500 f sport
Following the teaser released a week ago, Lexus has finally uncovered the LS 500 F Sport that’s set to make its appearance in the upcoming 2017 New York International Auto Show. The sharp Lexus LS 500 F Sport marks the third LS 500 model offered, following the standard LS 500 and the hybrid LS 500h.
Unlike its tamer siblings, the LS 500 F Sport looks more rebellious with its F Sport addenda. Unique to this LS is the complex front grille that has 7,100 individual surfaces, 2,100 more than the standard LS. Working together with the Spindle grille are two larger side intakes to improve air cooling. The LS 500 F Sport gets bigger 20-inch wheels, as well as two exclusive exterior hues – White Nova and Heat Blue.
BMW 8 SERIES
But there’s also much to tie this concept to BMW’s present-day lineup. Protruding taillights evoke the daring look of the i8while the mammoth cutouts in the front and rear bumpers recall the aggressively scalloped M2. The current 5-series wears similarly gimmicky trapezoidal exhaust finishers. The 8er’s edge will surely soften when it reaches production, but the concept gives a clear indication of what’s to come.
Interior
Though it will sit beside the 7-series atop the lineup, the 8 won’t be remotely as spacious. It’s snug, with a high center console and low seating position making the interior feel far smaller than it is. Nothing about its control layouts or detailing indicates any sort of interface revolution, though the iDrive controller and gear selector are made of Swarovski glass. Seeing as the jewelry company’s crystals made it into the headlights of the Mercedes-Benz S-class, it wouldn’t surprise us if BMW uses them in the production model. After all, Munich’s product planning often happens in Stuttgart, and vice versa.
Chassis
Despite a designation that suggests this is a 7-series coupe, the 8 will retain the current 6-series’ association with the 5-series sedan. While BMW’s larger, odd-numbered sedans share some components, expect the new range-topping coupe to feel more like a 5-series than a 7. It’ll be a couple of inches shorter and as much as 200 pounds lighter than the current 6-series. The body and chassis will be composed primarily of a mix of steel and aluminum, with a few select pieces cast in magnesium. As on the current 5, rear-wheel steering will be optional. The 8-series will replace the full 6-series lineup, so if you need more room (and more doors), there will be an 8-series Gran Coupe. And if you are okay with even less room, there will be a convertible as well.
