  1. Well, at least you got it running xD
It's been a few years since I've had similar problems with my car, but at least I had half of the glow plugs still working at -20°C when that happened, but the battery was failing so the starter motor wasn't running that fast either (its a 12year old Renault Clio 2 phase2 with a 1.5L dCi Turbodiesel engine). I remember it not wanting to start and stay running because of the cold, but touching the throttle helped to convince it to start (although I felt a bit bad to be revving up a cold engine…).

  2. What an interesting light show that is! Now I'd recommend a profuse apology to your starting motor! I'm astounded by how well the starter maintained speed until just before the engine lit off.

The gradual firing of more and more cylinders reminds me a lot of starting my old GMC pickup with its 6.2L V8 diesel engine. Even though the glow plug controller worked to cycle its indicator light, I never checked to see how many of the glow plugs still worked, if any. And only GM would put a 78 amp alternator driven by a single V-belt in a truck with two massive batteries…not that it could ever actually manage that output without overheating.

  3. its -35C here in quebec Canada… and we just got 38centimeters of snow…. ohhh winter!
