Short video to show you where your fuel enrichment screw is for adjusting fuel for more or less smoke.
More fuel = more power (turn in , clockwise)
Less fuel = less power (turn out , counter clockwise)
More fuel can mean more smoke but if you are not getting any smoke you can add more fuel by turning the fuel screw in 1/4 turn at a time and see how much smoke is put out at each 1/4 turn and decide on your own best result.
Remember where you first start so you can go back to that setting if you have to

Hi, You seemed like a very knowledgeable guy so I have to ask if you can help. I have a 86 vw rabbit diesel (Bosh VE 1.6. I ordered a instructional dvd and rebuilt mine. The problem I was having is all of a sudden, I was getting no fuel out.. I also replaced the pressure regulator and I am still having the same problem as before.. No fuel out.. It is primed and I adjusted the pressure accordingly. Do you know of any reason no pressure comes out of any injector lines when cracked open? Thanks!
First thing is the feed pump in correctly? When you look inside the feed pump outer ring should have the small hole where the fuel comes in on the right side looking in from the back. If it's flipped so it's on the left it will be covered up by the top plate. You should be able to look and see down the hole where the fuel should come. If not you might have the ring flipped over. Also the thick section should be on the top. Double check 12v to the shutoff. Intake and return fittings on correct?

OK, I haven't been on here in a long time.
Before you touch anything, look at the position of the screw slot on the end of the adjustment screw. Is it pointing to 1 and 7 o'clock position or is it 9 and 3? Mark it down so you can go back. Then loosen the nut and try to adjust it. Keep track of how far you turn it either in or out.
That way you can go back exactly to what it was before. Don't expect to get lots more power without getting any more smoke, more fuel equals more power but it will surely smoke more. This was put up because when you rebuild your pump you need to leave the bracket nut off so you can play with the throw on the bracket while turning the fuel screw in or out and then removing the bracket and turning it so a different mark lines up with the shaft line. it will run differently when the adjustment screw is turned in more and you will have to pop the bracket up and rotate it a little. you will have to try everything in a different place, no 2 engines will run the same depending on how worn or new everything else is. When you have it revving ok you can tighten things up and put the spring back on. Always remember timing is everything. I've seen an engine run and miss and pop and it sounded like it was going to blow up and missing on 1 cylinder and 1 tooth adjustment on the belt and then it runs perfect. Turn it in for more fuel and back out for less. Try it as far in as you can to start.
Also be careful when everything goes back together. No fuel could be a few things. I've seen people put the banjo fitting on backwards and also depending on how the feed pump is set in could block fuel and you will get nothing out. If you replace the pressure valve did you tap it in a little? flush to the top will have almost no pressure. You have to tap it in slightly like around 1/16th.

am i able to adjust this when the injection pump is still in i have a hood stacked mk3 for shows and i need it to blow black and i dont feel like taking it out for the 4th time
