We’ve reviewed the popular Volkswagen Passat Estate to find out whether it’s a wise choice for buyers wanting more space and practicality.
This 2.0-litre TDI with 138bhp achieves 62mph in a decent 9.8 seconds, while CO2 emissions are 135g/km.
Understated is probably the best way to describe this model — its sensible angular lines are easier on the eye than its saloon sibling, while the well-known smart black and silver grille are unquestionably Volkswagen. Seventeen-inch alloys and body-coloured bumpers only add to the appeal.
In terms of size, its 4771mm long, which is on a par with its rivals — slightly shorter than a Ford Mondeo estate, but slightly longer than an Audi A4 Avant or Skoda Superb. It does have the shortest wheelbase of this group but six footers will still be more than comfortable in the back.
The Passat estate continues to be a class leader — it’s no surprise that it accounts for more than half of overall Passat sales. It might be a bit dull looking for some, but for many it will tick all the boxes.
