n research and education, efficient ways for sharing data, content and functionality are paramount to meet modern collaboration needs. The availability of new collaboration services is growing quickly, offering new opportunities for users. However, this abundance of services creates an on-going challenge of integrating these into campus and collaboration infrastructures.
To engage this demanding field, the Dutch National Research and Education Network (NREN) SURFnet created an open source middleware suite for building collaborative platforms: OpenConext. The platform combines federated identity management, federated groups, portals and distributed applications to deliver services.
