Audi A3 PEV prototype ride. Audi chose to electrify its A3 instead of building an EV from the ground up. It’s harder to fit all the parts — especially the huge batteries — into an existing chassis, but the car can reach the market faster because the majority of it is already in production as a gas-engine car (the A3 TDI).
