2019 Acura RDX with Intuitive True Touchpad Interface™
Designed from a clean sheet and deployed for the first time in the automotive world in the third generation RDX, Acura’s True Touchpad Interface is a holistic, system-level approach to in-car user interface that is optimized for the driver and the driving experience.
The system is designed to combine the advantages of both conventional touchscreen and remote-based approaches. The True Touchpad Interface features a 10.2-inch full-HD center display mounted high atop the center console, close to the driver’s natural line of sight, a center console-mounted touchpad and an all-new, Android-based operating system.
Unlike conventional touchpad designs, Acura’s True Touchpad Interface does not require the user to locate a cursor on the screen while navigating the touchpad. To support intuitive and easy control, the touchpad is precisely mapped, one-to-one, with the action on the center display – the world’s first application of absolute positioning in the driving environment. Simply, a touch on any location of the touchpad corresponds directly with that same location on the display.

Finally!!!!!! I love and drive Acura's (TSX, RDX and now MDX) but their infotainment drives me mad and is so outdated and ridiculously slow, even my 2017 MDX….But now it seems like its been completely overhauled.
They admit touchscreen is best. So why can’t they add both a touchscreen and a touchpad? There’s no room for your cell phone on the console. Not very practical.

Wow this is a genuine attempt to address the criticisms about new automotive infotainment system distractions. Great video. Long overdue for Acura though but they deserve kudos for doing this. I still think they should give us the option of a touch screen however: there is nothing more frustrating trying to operate android auto with a darn controller. Looks like the latest BMW system will still be top notch.

I find touch SCREENs stunningly intuitive. I'm not one of those turds who would deny people who like a touch pad from having that option — I'm just suggesting both. You might have T-rex arms and can't reach the screen — fine — use the touch pad. For those of use who can reach the touch screen — we get what we want TOO.
Great idea to place screen at eye sight level, bad idea to ask user to look down to find the corner of the touch pad… Touch pad is never going to be as intuitive as touch screen. That's exactly the difference between and Tablet and a desktop with a mouse.
A TLX redesign can't come soon enough.
Great idea to separate the two functions. The touchpad controller is use to interface with the screen. No you cannot touch the screen to input the command directly because that would violate the design of the new infotainment interface. It took Acura 5 years of R&D to figure this out! Drivers want to use the touchpad and never want to directly touch the screen! Bravo Acura!
the interior looks DATED already….I hate that the dashboard looks busy and all over the place.
No touchscreen option, no purchase. Simple. The narrator stated multiple times that touchscreen is most intuitive and simple to use — yet no touchscreen alternative. Accura lost a substantial majority element of the purchaser continuum. And I wonder how much to fix the trackpad or replace the electronics after one spills coffee or a drink on the pad.
If you swipe down on the touchpad Side B you can get a large image of the clock on the screen. Can I somehow set that as a default so the large clock is always on the screen?
Can Navigation be whatever maps app you pick like Google Maps (Google Play or Apple Play) vs. Honda Maps?
How about if it is extremely cold outside, will the touchpad work with your gloves on? What happens if you accidently spill coffee on the touchpad which may happen, will it short out?
