2018 Volvo S90:
Starting with the 2018 model year, all Volvo S90s sold in the States will be of the long-wheelbase variety, which are assembled in China, a market that prioritizes rear-seat accommodations. Volvo’s familiar 400-hp T8 Twin Engine plug-in-hybrid powertrain also is joining the lineup, sitting at the top of the range above the existing 250-hp T5 and 316-hp T6 choices. The updated S90 will join Volvo’s own S60 Inscription sedan (another long-wheelbase variant) and Buick’s Envision crossover in the small but growing number of China-built cars sold in the United States. Volvo said the move is meant to free up capacity for the popular XC90 crossover at the company’s production line in Sweden; standard-wheelbase S90 sedans will continue to be built there for Europe. The S90’s V90 wagon counterpart, sold in the United States in Cross Country and special-order-only V90 forms, also will continue to be built in Sweden. Though the S90’s wheelbase stretch is a fairly significant 4.7 inches, it really doesn’t upset the car’s nice proportions. Volvo says the entirety of the stretch is behind the B-pillar, so it directly benefits rear-seat passengers, who gain 4.5 inches of legroom. The S90 also offers new rear-seat luxury options including massaging seats, power window shades, and a revised center armrest. The T8 Twin Engine model’s plug-in-hybrid powertrain is identical to that found in the XC90’s hybrid variant. It mates the T6’s turbocharged and supercharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with two electric motors for a combined 400 horsepower. The Cadillac XTS is a spacious and comfortable sedan with confident handling and performance. The updated chassis has revised tire designs for both 19″ and 20″ tires-improving ride comfort while reducing outside noise for a quieter more comfortable cabin. Drivers will find front-seat luxury much more comfortable thanks to changes to seat foam geometry, wire frame structure and heat pad redesign. An increased use of engineered sound insulators (to reduce exterior noise) reduces cabin sound to create an even more serene environment. New exterior styling features freshened front and rear fascias. Updated interior color and trim choices — including a Platinum-exclusive Maple Sugar with Jet Black environment — and new alloy wheel options highlight the updates to the XTS. The appearance change includes new fenders, front and rear fascias, grille, and the addition of LED headlights and taillamp in keeping with today’s portfolio. It also brings the overall length of the car to 200.9 inches (1.1″ inches shorter than 2017).
