Discover all the secrets of the new Porsche Cayenne a few weeks from the Frankfurt Motor Show.
After a few leaks of photos in recent days, the brand new Porsche Cayenne is finally officially presented, in view of its presentation in September in the alleys of the Frankfurt 2017 fair (September 14-24). A new and third generation that distinguishes itself from the previous ones by a new style, notably at the back, echoing the latest creations of the firm of Stuttgart, but also by an interior that offers more space, and a decreasing weight.
And we start with the look of this new Porsche Cayenne. Very honestly, because we do not change a winning team, we are still very close to the current generation of the SUV. It is true at the front where only the most expert eyes will arrive to make the difference between the newcomer and his predecessor. We note however that the edges on the hood are closer, and the air inlets a little wider than before. The profile does not seem to change any more, except this line of character at the bottom of the belt more marked, and rims that widen, from 19 to 21 inches. On the other hand, the 3rd generation of Cayenne will be recognized at the rear, with horizontal lights crossing the tailgate through the rear of the brand, first on the 718 Cayenne and 718 Boxster, then on the newest Panamera and Panamera Sport Turismo.
As for the wheelbase, the new Porsche Cayenne does not evolve compared to the previous generation at 2.89 meters. On the other hand, it takes 7 cm in length to reach 4.92 meters. This offers more space inside, especially for the legroom, but also a volume of boot up 15%.
An upward gauge that is not synonymous with increasing weight. On the contrary. It loses more than 60 kilos, thanks to exterior panels, a floor and a good part of the aluminum frame. A lithium-polymer battery alone loses nearly 10 pounds.
Let’s get to the engines. With 40 more horsepower than at present, the new Porsche Cayenne «base» embeds a V6 3.0 turbo with 340 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. The Cayenne S increases it by 20 bhp passing to 420 horses, taken from its block V6 2.9 liters biturbo. Both models are entitled to a new version of the 8-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive. For Turbo, GTS and other Hybrid, patience!
To remain on the mechanical side, this new generation of the Porsche Cayenne adopts once again the Porsche Active Suspension Management adaptive suspension, revised and corrected for the occasion, standard on the Cayenne S, and optionally on the first level of finishing . But Porsche also adopts a new option, the Porsche Surface Coated Brake, which concern the brakes. It is a new combination of tungsten-carbide on the cladding of the stirrups, allowing to improve the coefficient of friction and reduce dust residues. The carbon-ceramic remains obviously in the catalog.
A tour inside to discover there also many changes in the dashboard. In reality, we find that of the last Panamera, notably with this 12.3-inch infotainment system. All in all, fewer buttons, capacitive keys, all for a refined ambience.
The third generation of the Porsche Cayenne is already available to order. Count from 77’184 euros, and from 94’464 euros for the Cayenne S.
