2018 Nissan GT-R Track Edition sees key NISMO upgrades, Nissan’s GT-R Track Edition is pretty much a GT-R NISMO, but more livable, What is it? The Nissan GT-R has built an impressive resume in its decade of service, receiving modest but key enhancements as the years built up. Yes, it was that good right from the start. Last year saw the Black Edition, and this year sees another small update that brings us the Track Edition model that starts at $149,100. That’s about double what the first car cost in 2007. The new GT-R Track Edition continues to get that magical, hand-assembled and twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 with 565 horsepower. With torque rated at 467 lb.-ft. and AWD as standard, the acceleration of the GT-R can be physically painful. A Titanium exhaust system is standard. Why does it matter? At this price point, the GT-R needs more to keep buyers flocking to the Porsche 911, Chevrolet Corvette or Dodge Viper. The Track Edition gets additional adhesive bonding in addition to spot-welding, both of which increase body shell rigidity versus the GT-R Premium. The four-wheel independent suspension receives unique NISMO tuning, with reduced weight and additional roll stiffness versus the GT-R Premium, as well as NISMO-spec wheels and tires. The GT-R Track Edition, with a red exterior and black interior, features standard leather-appointed Recaro front bucket seats. Also standard is a RearView Monitor and navigation. When is it coming? The GT-R Track Edition is new to the U.S., but it’s in Canadian dealers now. Should you buy it? Weighed against the Porsche 911 GT3, that’s a very difficult choice. The GT-R will destroy the Porsche in straight-line acceleration, so it depends on what kind of wins you want to rack up.

2018 Audi RS5: Two Turbos, Much Power, Available Hatchback: What It Is: Audi’s monster version of the new A5 coupe. It’s powered by a furious twin-turbocharged V-6, fitted with a rear-biased all-wheel-drive system, and comes wearing a wide body that evokes, for some of us, the original Sport Quattro rally cars. For the first time, there will be a four-door RS5 Sportback; the RS5 cabriolet is gone. Europe gets an RS4 Avant with the same powertrain, but due to the U.S. market’s aversion to wagons, don’t expect it to appear on these shores. Why It Matters: The Audi brand has been suffering from two things: safe, evolutionary styling and the diesel scandal that engulfed the entire Volkswagen Group. It needs nothing more than sexy new product, and the RS5 should prove that the brand hasn’t lost its touch. Platform: The RS5 is based on the modular, longitudinal-engine MLB Evo platform, shared with the A4, the Q5/Q7, the next-gen A6/A7/A8, and a number of VW Group models such as the China-market VW Phideon sedan. Powertrain: A 444-hp version of the twin-turbo 2.9-liter V-6 that also powers the Porsche Panamera 4S. Peak torque is rated at 443 pound-feet, and the output routes to all four wheels through a ZF-supplied eight-speed automatic.Competition: BMW M4, Cadillac ATS-V coupe, Lexus RC F, Mercedes-AMG C63. What Might Go Wrong: The RS5’s exterior design might fail to push Audi’s design language forward. Estimated Arrival and Price: Late this year as a 2018 model with a starting price just over $70K; the Sportback will come a half-year later.
