Due to reach Australian showrooms from November, the latest updates concentrate on the car’s alloy wheel designs, infotainment system and, in the case, of the sporty-flavoured 340i, steering performance. A “vibrant” new colour option, Sunset Orange, is also available.
The changes coincide with an $800 increase in entry price to the eight-tier 3 Series range (six sedans and two wagons). Above the base model, prices have increased by between $1000 and $2000 depending on variant.
The range starts with the 318i, priced from $57,300 plus on-road costs, moving upwards through the 320i ($63,400 plus ORCs), 330i (70,990 plus ORCs), 330e iPerformance hybrid ($73,900 plus ORCs) and six-cylinder powered 340i ($91,200 plus ORCs). The wagon range starts at $67,500 plus ORCs for the 320i and $75,000 plus ORCs for the 330i.
Mechanically, the 3 Series range is virtually unchanged (specific engine data available below) save for tweaks to the 340i’s steering package. It joins all other variants in using a fixed-ratio power steering package, based on feedback of customers who preferred it over the outgoing Variable Sports Steering configuration. The latter is still available as an option, BMW says.
Mirroring the updated 1 Series and 4 Series, the 2018 3 Series range uses the latest version of BMW’s infotainment system, iDrive 6. The software is projected on a 6.5-inch display in the case of the 318i, 320i and 320d, and a 8.8-inch display on all other models.
Outside of these changes, BMW offers umpteen trim selections and optional packages.
The updated 3 Series range is available to order now before reaching showrooms in November.
