New for 2018
Like its A6-sedan sibling, the 2018 Audi A7 gets a slightly more powerful V-6 engine. Premium Plus trims now come with LED ambient lighting as standard while the Prestige model gets a corner view camera. The Competition package option adds red brake calipers, sport-tuned suspension, a sport differential, aluminum interior trim, a flat-bottom steering wheel with paddle shifters, and S Sport seats. High-performance S7 and RS 7 get a new 20- and 21-inch alloy wheel options, respectively.

Vehicle Summary
The 2018 Audi A7 is a midsize hatchback that slots above the new A5 Sportback and comes standard with all-wheel drive. Two high-performance variants, the S7 and RS 7 are also available for those looking for more power.

Safety
The NHTSA and IIHS haven’t crash tested the 2018 Audi A7. Available active safety features include automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, blind spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with a stop-and-go function, and active lane keeping assist.

What We Think
The base 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 offers plenty of power, as we noted in a 2016 First Test and acceleration comes with little drama thanks to the smooth engine and quick-shifting eight-speed automatic. Interior quality remains top notch and the MMI system is now easier to use compared to the infotainment systems found in its rivals. Ride quality, however, is jarring over less-than-perfect roads when the A7 is equipped with larger alloy wheel options.
In a 2016 S7 First Drive, we said that it offers impressive acceleration and feels neutral through the turns with the available sport differential. Opt for the more powerful RS 7 and you’ll get blistering acceleration in a large hatchback that flies under the radar, as we noted in a 2016 First Drive.
