Finally! An OEM (VWAG) HomeLink Garage Door Opener / Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror With Compass for the MK7. Looks like VW finally has a model that offers these features and the shared architecture now makes it available for the Golf. I was told this version is for cars with the DAP package (auto rain sensing wipers, lane assist, etc) but all features have not been tested.
I do full removal and installation of the new mirror.
This took a lot longer while trying to film, I cut ten minutes of me just fighting trying to line up the mirror during install, overall not too bad for a DIY project.
A side by side look at the stock vs. homeLink mirror here-
There is no coding required for this install, you must only program the HomeLink button(s). This was completely plug and play, no wiring changes were done as the existing harness was used. The compass started working after driving for a few miles and has worked fine ever since, I did not set the region but it seems accurate. For cars without the existing wiring the accessory from VW comes with a harness. See my link below to the video shopdap posted for more on that.
Update:
The auto dimming headlights/brights (light assist) is controlled by the lane assist camera NOT the mirror so no issues there, I found that information in my owners manual, I had initially thought it was part of the mirror.

Seems you get different results on Google if you search without the dots…Try both = 000072548f
I ordered mine from the local VW dealer, got it next day.
(Deutsche Auto Parts) shopdap has a good video of a GTI install, the Non-DAP version with the wiring harness install.

Thanks, less than 10 minutes to install and program on a 2018 Passat.
The stock mirror has a bigger diameter joint than the homelink mirror, so it resists torque more when going over bumps

Great Video. Just added to my 2017 MK7 Golf Alltrack w/DAP & LP. Somehow managed to get it installed pretty quick. I too thought i broke the clamshell when i was getting that sucker off.
