The 2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS ought to come from the Stuttgart factory with numbers on its doors. The highest-performing 911 that can still wear a licence plate, the RS takes the already-omnipotent GT3 and adds a cauldron of habaneros.
At full throttle, with the flat-six screaming to its 8,800 rpm redline, past the crests and deep valleys of this 4.2-kilometre track, the sound of the 4.0-litre echoes off the greening trees like a coming swarm of angry locusts. The loudness will literally make babies cry. While the crankshaft, valve springs and cam in the RS are different from the 3.8-litre GT3, the RS essentially runs the same direct-injection 9A1 engine found in the GT3, albeit with a longer stroke.
Zero to 100 km/h is shredded in 3.3 seconds; 200 km/h is gone by 10.9 seconds, top speed is 310 km/h.
After a four-year hiatus, the RS is back as the current, crowning GT car outside the racing circuit. Starting at $200,700, only 2,000 RS 911s will be built for worldwide consumption. Available in only four colours, two of which cost extra (the Ultraviolet will no doubt become a collectible, but the Lava orange is easily the best looking), the newest RS is already in high demand.
