Even a moment of driver distraction can have life-changing results. With DISTRONIC PLUS, advanced radar sensors vigilantly scan traffic ahead for stopped or slowing traffic.
If the system senses that a collision is imminent, its PRE-SAFE Brake feature automatically initiates up to 40% braking power, audibly alerts the driver, and engages the PRE-SAFE system.
When the driver brakes, 100% braking pressure is instantly applied. And should the driver fail to respond, the system can apply full braking on its own, serving as an «electronic crumple zone» to help reduce the intensity of a collision.

That is really nice. But are you sure that you can rely on the car completely? I think you should still keep your hands on the wheel and breaks. That is just a safety measure right?

Helping behavior, it is a safety feature, but like you said, keep those hands on. I used to test drive prototype mercedes Benz here in tx, and became familiar with distronic plus, mostly on amg's, but it's nerve wrecking when first using it. I drove from tx to cali to deliver a few Benz back the long beach Benz research center and I used distronic almost the whole way as a safety distance cushion. The program did fail on me one time in a c-class 250 coming to a light second up. Thanks for letting me share.
