2 car head-on accident on Route 30 in Brattleboro, VT

«BRATTLEBORO — A Putney man was arrested and cited with driving under the influence of drugs, Wednesday afternoon, after he caused a head-on collision which forced police to close Rt. 30 in Brattleboro for several hours.

According to police, Dustin W. North, 32, was driving a black Audi toward Brattleboro just before noon when he ran head-on into a red Volkswagen Jetta. There were two people in each vehicle. The accident took place just north of Grafton Village Cheese, near the I-91 overpass. A man in the Jetta had to be extricated from the vehicle, which took Brattleboro Fire Department officials about an hour. He and two others involved in the accident were taken to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police have not released their names or conditions.

Witnesses report that North was driving erratically from Newfane to the site of accident. He was was given a sobriety check at the scene and left in the back of a police cruiser. Witnesses also claim North crossed yellow line and did not apply brakes prior to accident. No skid marks were visible on road at the scene.
In addition to the DUI citation, North was also cited for negligent operation of a vehicle with serious injury resulting. The investigation is ongoing. North has been ordered to appear in court on May 8.

Traffic was re-routed through Upper Dummerston Road during the road closure. »
