This is from the age when eloquence and poetry marked the words of our leaders.
This is magnificent. A signed, framed copy of this proclamation that my father rescued from a state Capitol trash can many years ago was a staple of our family Thanksgiving dinners. Very moving to see it read by Cross himself.
And to think that the following year, Democrats and Republicans were literally celebrating it on different dates.
