The luxurious coats on some dog breeds are part of their natural charm and beauty. However, the grooming needs and general upkeep for dogs that shed a lot can be a bit bothersome for owners. Canines that have minimal shedding can be great for those with pet allergies, first-time owners or for those who prefer lower maintenance dogs.

PetBreeds compiled a list of the 25 dogs that shed the least. The findings factored in the general amount of shedding by breed and ranked them based on 2014 American Kennel Club popularity rankings.
With their blue-black tongues and wrinkly skin, there’s no mistaking the Chinese Shar-Pei. Their name means “sand skin” in Cantonese and their coats come in three types: horse, brush and bear coat. These canines shed only about twice a year.
Playful, bright and adventurous, the Airedale Terrier is a diligent canine that is happiest when hard at work. These furry guys have a wiry outer coat and softer undercoat that should be brushed a couple times a week.
Portuguese Water Dogs are high-energy working dogs that are equally happy at home as they are in the water. Although their long, wavy coats shed very little, to help them look their best Portuguese Water Dogs need regular grooming.
